Unleash the Good: How Spartan Can Make a Difference with Charity Fundraising

When you push your limits, conquer obstacles, and cross the finish line at a Spartan event, you’re not just challenging yourself physically—you’re also unlocking the potential to make a profound impact on the world. By choosing to fundraise for a charity and using the givestar platform, you can turn your Spartan race experience into a force for good. Here’s how you can unleash the good and make a difference with every step you take.

Meet Kim Ingleby: The Mind Body Coach

I'm Kim Ingleby, also known as the Mind Body Coach and the founder of Energised Performance. My journey is all about believing in yourself, reducing self-sabotage, and making dreams happen—whatever they may be. With a life filled with adventures, challenges, and a passion for helping others, I’ve embraced every experience to become a better coach and person.

My love for adventure stems from my Scottish roots, with family ties across Israel, the USA, and Zimbabwe. These connections have fuelled my curiosity about different cultures and my desire to see if the things I think I can’t do are truly possible. From surviving a kidney bleed and blood clot to riding horses for Scotland U21, completing the UK Ironman, and even giving a TEDx talk, I’ve always sought to turn challenges into opportunities for growth.

Why I Run for Charity

Charity has always been a core element of my motivation, work, and focus. My early experiences raising money for Raleigh International and Gold Duke of Edinburgh opened my eyes to the power of kindness and support. More recently, I’ve partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support, a cause close to my heart. Like many, I’ve seen the devastating impact of cancer on loved ones. Macmillan’s work in end-of-life care and ongoing family support is profound, and I’m driven to help fund these critical services.

Every race, every step, I take is in memory of friends and loved ones affected by cancer. It costs nearly £1,000 for a Macmillan nurse to care for someone at home for a week. My goal is to raise enough funds to provide this care for at least one week, and with your help, perhaps even more.

Why Spartan Race?

Why Spartan? Because it’s a crazy, exhilarating challenge—and one that many people thought I was crazy to try, especially on my own. But that’s exactly why I chose it. Spartan embodies the spirit of pushing beyond perceived limits, something I’ve always embraced.

Although I didn’t train as specifically as I might have liked, I knew I could always take the penalty options for the obstacles I couldn’t conquer. On race day, my nerves were high, but the atmosphere and support were incredible—so inclusive and empowering. The experience was unforgettable. I was in awe of the elite athletes, inspired to improve, and incredibly grateful to be able to participate, especially after overcoming a blood clot and vascular leak.

My favourite challenges were the atlas balls, logs, and lifting, which were surprisingly easier than expected. The bars, rings, and ropes? Not so much—but they’ve motivated me to train harder. My top tips for acing the race? Pace yourself, relax, enjoy the experience, and don’t worry about penalties—they’re just opportunities to improve for next time. Surround yourself with support, believe in yourself, and most importantly, have fun! You may surprise yourself with what you can achieve.

What’s Next?

Next up for me is the Macmillan Mighty Hike Marathon in September, followed by the Three Yorkshire Peaks Marathon. I’m both nervous and excited, but every story shared by those who donate keeps me focused and committed. I’ve also got an Aquathlon and some big training walks lined up. After that? Who knows! I love a challenge, giving back, and hopefully inspiring someone reading this to give it a go, too. Maybe another Spartan? We’ll see!
